An FF-TCG Grand Championship report!

Top

The Grand Championship of the FINAL FANTASY Trading Card Game (FF-TCG for short) was held in Nagoya on the 1st and 2nd of July!

The tournament, whose winner is guaranteed a spot in the world championship, and various other events were held over the weekend. Here’s a report of the action!

What is FF-TCG?

FF-TCG is a FINAL FANTASY-themed trading card game.

The rules are simple, but there’s also a complexity to it, with gimmicks familiar to FF fans. The selling point of TCG is that your deck influences your strategy and how the game unfolds. I highly recommend it for those who love tabletop games!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with FF-TCG, check out these tutorial videos to learn the rules:

Day 1 (Preliminaries)

Competitors played through Swiss rounds on the first day. With 113 entries, the room was packed to the brim!

The top three winners will receive one of these FINAL FANTASY XII THE ZODIAC AGE illustrated trophies!

They sure do look heavy.

Next to the tournament area, there were other events such as tutorials for FF-TCG beginners, Gunslinger Matches (matches against the FF-TCG development staff), and Booster Draft Matches (matches using decks created on the spot with booster packs). Everyone seemed to be having a great time!

Day 2 (Finals)

Of the 113 entries, twelve moved up to the tournament finals.

Look at that concentration.

And finally...

The last two competitors faced off!

Though completely focused, the opponents exchanged a few words during the match and maintained a friendly mood throughout.

After a brilliant match, the winner of the tournament was Mr. Kakka! Congratulations on a spot in the world championship!

After the final match, an official FF-TCG live stream was recorded (with appearances by the FF portal staff!).

TCG beginners went up against the development staff in thrilling matches.
