FF Weekly: Remember When...

Happy New Year!!

We've entered 2020, the turn of the decade. In the Chinese zodiac, 2020 is the Year of the Rat, so we'd like to introduce a few rat monsters and characters that have appeared in FINAL FANTASY series titles over the years.

By far the most common rat monster in FF titles is the wererat! It has appeared in over five different titles, and is often an enemy players encounter early on in their adventures so surely many FF fans are familiar with this monster. Wererat made its first appearance in FINAL FANTASY II. Let's see how its design has changed over the years!

Another FF series rat creature is the Qiqirn race from FINAL FANTASY XI. While they appear as regular enemies, you can also interact with civilized Qiqirn throughout Vana'diel. Qiqirn are quite intelligent and even operate a small port town called Nashmau!

Finally, we have the Burmecians from FINAL FANTASY IX! The playable character Freya Crescent is a Burmecian, and a rare female dragoon. Freya is also a proud, stoic warrior but is weighed down by her longing for her lost love Fratley, whom she is searching for when she joins the party in FFIX.
